Diagnostics & Fault Finding

Modern vehicles record faults across many control units. A proper diagnostic check reads them, makes sense of the live data and tells you what is actually wrong.

What a diagnostic check covers

A diagnostic check reads fault codes from the vehicle’s control units, such as engine, gearbox and emissions systems, and looks at live data while the engine runs. Codes point to where a problem is; the live data and further testing show what’s causing it.

Why it comes before a remap

Every remap enquiry starts with the vehicle’s health. Existing faults, such as boost leaks, sensor faults or a struggling DPF, need putting right first, because a remap won’t fix them and can make them worse.

Mobile and straightforward

Because JF Remapping is mobile, diagnostics are carried out at your home or workplace. You’ll get a plain-English explanation of what’s been found and the options for fixing it, including when a job is better suited to a workshop.

Questions about diagnostics & fault finding

Do I need a diagnostic check before a remap?

The vehicle is always checked for faults before a remap. If an issue turns up, it's discussed with you before any tuning goes ahead.

Will a code reader tell me what's wrong?

It tells you where the control unit has seen a problem, not always why. Live data and testing are what pin down the cause.
